Nicky’s secret to lasting weight loss: intuitive eating and Isagenix

Nicky McGee had tried everything under the sun to lose weight, but Isagenix turned out to be the easiest – and most successful – journey she’s ever had! Even while managing her busy career, she changed her habits for good to become an intuitive eater, saying yes to food on her terms. We absolutely loved chatting to our IsaBody Finalist – read on to learn how she finally changed old habits for good.
Getting started
I didn’t know much about IsaBody, and I didn’t realise there was a cash incentive, I just saw it as a good way to hold myself accountable. A friend had used Isagenix products for about two years and told me how much weight he’d lost and how manageable it was, so he put me in touch with a friend who got me started.
I’ve tried everything in the past – honestly you name it, I’ve tried it – but while I’d start strong, I’d often slack off as soon as I saw results. This however has been the best journey I’ve had for losing weight!
Intuitive eating and changed habits
The weight loss has been incredible, but my biggest accomplishment has been changing my mindset and my habits.
Before I’d always felt like I was missing out, but now during celebratory meals for example, I know there’s cake available, but there will still be cake in six months, I don’t have to have it right at that moment. It’s phenomenal, I don’t feel deprived of anything!
Before I started, I was drinking 10 to 15 cups of coffee a day. Those first few days felt like a detox, and I believe it was more of a caffeine detox than a sugar one. Getting through those first 21 days to break my habits was instrumental in saying ‘I can do this!’.
The Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Energy Bites are honestly my lifesaver. Whenever I had a craving for something sweet, I’d just grab one.
I also used to snack after dinner while lying in bed watching a series. Now I’ve started having my dinner early, going to the gym, and going to bed so I’m already tired and I don’t crave snacks.
I’ve gradually reintroduced things like having wine when going out socially, but I immediately revert back to my routine the next day. In the past, if I’d gone off plan in the morning, I’d think I might as well have a whole cheat day.
Working long hours can be extremely stressful, but having the structure of ‘breakfast is a shake, lunch is a shake, dinner is a cooked meal’ helped me immensely. This journey has been an eye-opener for me, and I’m still on it!
The next chapter
My next milestone is that I have family arriving on December 16th, and I’m aiming to lose 10 to 15kg by then. The nice part is that we joined the gym as a family – my husband, myself, my daughter, and my son. The family support was great and my son is a rugby player who held me accountable, so we we’re going to the gym four to five times a week.
Top tips
Even though it may sound cliche, trust the process and don’t be too hard on yourself. I used to have a cheat meal that turned into a cheat day, and then I’d feel depressed about it. Now, if I have wine, I don’t feel guilty because I know I can get back on track.
I used to be conscious with calories, but with Isagenix I use my own knowledge to gauge my meals – like how much chicken and veggies I need. If I feel hungry after dinner, I’ll have another piece of chicken. Not being so militant helps immensely!
Extra benefits
At 48, I’m going through menopause without hormone replacements, trying to keep it as natural as possible, and I really believe that eating right has helped. The supplements like Ionix® Supreme and Collagen Elixir™ have really supported me through the last couple of months.
In the beginning, I thought I could never get on board with shakes, but now, I adore them!
